The Craziness that was Summer 2011!

Summer has always been non-stop action for me. Not sure why but every year since I can remember, it’s one big blur of action. This year was no exception. The weekend school let out, my 12 yr. old niece descended upon us and camped out on the upstairs den sofa. And every day after that I was forced…forced I tell you! To lay out by the pool while she swam. While I do have a wicked tan, you can imagine how much writing I accomplished. If you guess NONE…then you’re the smartest thing since…well, smart things were known. As June gave way to July…the niece grew bored of the pool and spent her days lounging on the computer devouring YouTube videos. I thought I would finally get back to writing. Wrong. My grandmother’s house…sitting empty since her passing in December…was offered to my daughter for a small ‘rent’ fee. Fantastic! As her place was a dive. I was more than happy to see her out of there. Which led to the time-consuming, back-breaking, sweat-producing month it took us to gut the house…sink a small fortune on paints/spackle/etc. into and refurbish the entire thing. The house barely even resembles what I remember of Grandma’s house. But, it looks fantastic, if I do say so myself. Yesterday, we rented a moving truck and moved my daughter out of her ‘dive’ and into the newly painted, pretty little house that I still see Grandma in when I pull into the driveway. I’m almost home free! More than I realized at the time. Today…when whining about there being another whole month of summer vacation to be had…my niece decides…I’m boring. Her words…not mine. LOL She packed her things and left, barely stopping to tell me ‘bye’ on her way out the door. I was … Keep Reading!

Author Interview – Kallysten

I thought I’d do something a bit different here on the blog this week and feature an author instead of talking about myself. *wink*I’ve known this author for years and she has an impressive list of books. Kallysten turns up the heat in most of her stories and writes vampires like no ones business! She’s here today to share a bit about them, her writing process, and to offer a few words of advice for aspiring authors out there.Welcome Kallysten! I’m thrilled to have you as my first ever Author Interview! Can you tell us a bit about when and why you began writing? For as long as I can remember, I told myself stories. I would play them out with dolls when I was younger, then later I would lie in bed at night and make up little movies in my head as I fell asleep. Then when I was… twelve, maybe? I was given a planner to use in school to write my homework and such. It had a (faux) leather cover, and a ribbon for bookmark… it was much to nice to write homework in, I decided. I took it to school, but I didn’t write in it. Then one day during a free period I was bored. I had too many stories in my head, friends to share them with and a blank book to write them in… I picked up a pencil and wrote my first outline, summarizing each chapter in bullet points before I started writing. I think I still have the book somewhere in my closet, with my friends’ comments scribbled at the end. Do you have any news you’d like to share? Let’s see… I just released the latest installment of my Visions of Destiny series. In this one – number seven – we get to … Keep Reading!

Book Editing – Oh, How I Loathe Thee

I realized today that I have exactly 34 days until THE GATHERING is released and… the book isn’t even ready yet! I’m still dallying around with edits, as usual. I loathe edits with a fiery passion. I’ve seen some writers say they love them because it means the book is done. Well, yeah, I get that, but writing is the fun part. Or it is for me. Since I don’t outline ahead of time, writing is the adventure. I live it along with the characters. Edits are just rehashing the already known. It’s not fun. It’s quite boring, actually. I’m a procrastinator, everyone who follows this blog, knows this. I can’t help it. My attention span is very short. I’ve often said I suffer from Adult ADD. (I’ve not been diagnosed, but I think I should have it checked out!) I flit from thing to thing and my “To Do” list gets longer every day. For every task I mark off, I add two because I’m constantly ‘doing’ things other than what I should be doing. It’s a never ending battle over here, folks! I envy those authors who have every minute of their day organized and know exactly what to do when. I schedule my time like I write… by the seat of my pants! It’s a wild, wicked rush at times but, it’s how I roll. Unfortunately, at the moment, it looks as if I’m rolling headlong into a brick wall. I’ve got to get a handle on my time management. I don’t work outside the home, writing is what I do, so I have no excuse really. I guess I’ll just ban myself from the Internet until my ‘work’ is done. That’s the only thing I can think of at the moment! What ‘time management’ advice do you have? … Keep Reading!

Those two are fun to write! Let’s just hope the muse doesn’t get any wild hairs and want a whole story featuring this couple. lol http://alinarpublishing.blogspot.com/2011/03/friday-flash-fiction_11.html All material &copy2005-2012 to Lily Graison
