13 Things I find on Website’s that Annoy Me

  1. Tiny text. Even with my glasses its hard to see. Fonts should be large and clear.
  2. Music!! I HATE it. Especially when I can’t find a way to turn it off.
  3. Publishers/Authors websites that don’t post excerpts. I sample before I buy and if I can’t find an excerpt, I click away immediately. I’m not chasing down links to read a sample.
  4. Pull down website menus. If I click ‘Books’ on an authors site, I want the books, not 8 categories I need to chose from to find them.
  5. Dark/black backgrounds with bright/or white text. It kills the eyes after a while so I click away instead of exploring.
  6. Sites that are riddled with typos. Do people not proof-read after they post?
  7. Scrolling until eternity to get to the bottom of the page. If you have that much stuff to say, make special pages for it. It ALL doesn’t have to be on the front page.
  8. Blinky’s and sparkly things. They distract from the main content.
  9. Music!! I’ve said it once but it bears repeating. I LOATHE it.
  10. Transparent backgrounds for posts when the page background is so “loud” you can’t read what is there.
  11. Not being able to find contact information. If I want to email the site owner, I don’t want to spend 20 minutes trying to figure out how.
  12. CAPTCHA boxes. Most times, the words are so jumbled I can’t read them! After 3 tries, I give up and leave.
  13. Sites without Search features. If I’m looking for something in particular, I want to be able to find it in minutes instead of trolling dozen of pages I care nothing about.
There’s my 13 most annoying things I find on websites. What about you? What do you find annoying on websites? List yours in the comments.

Tuesday Teaser – Wicked: Leather and Lace – Contemporary Romance book

This week’s teaser comes from Book 2 in the Wicked Series, LEATHER AND LACE. I’ll admit to loving Luke just a little bit more than I do the rest of the guys in the band but only because he’s SO wicked! He’s the ultimate bad boy and what girl can really resist them?

(This excerpt is longer than most so I’ve put a ‘jump-break’ in so it doesn’t fill the page)

Roxy Carlisle is on a mission. She’s been in lust with Luke Harris, lead guitarist for the band Wicked, for two years. When her best friend, Holly, hooks up with the bands lead singer, and asks her to tag along to New York with her to meet the band, Roxy couldn’t pack her bags fast enough. The chance to meet Luke in person was a dream come true. Even better if her ultimate fantasy of finding herself in his bed were to happen. One way or another, she was determined to have him. That is, if Holly’s hair-brained idea of playing hard to get doesn’t backfire in her face.

Luke Harris loves women and they love him. All he ever has to do is speak to them and they fall all over themselves to be the lucky lady of the night. That all changes though when a feisty brunette comes barreling into his life and changes all the rules. She’s immune to his usual charm, or so it seems, but something in her eyes tells him otherwise.

Has Luke finally met a woman he can’t seduce? Can Roxy follow her plan and not give in when Luke sets his sights on her? When sex is all you’re after, can you walk away when your heart demands more?

Excerpt

A night out on the town with Luke Harris was just as Roxy imagined it would be… sort of.

It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Not having to wait in any lines was a plus… the flash of cameras was exciting, and the push and shove of people trying to make their way through a crowd to get to him left her star-struck.

Then, there was the horrifying reality that she was just in the way. Being shoved away while the groupies practically attacked her date hadn’t been part of her little fantasy.

Roxy sighed in frustration; staring at nothing as yet another blonde threw her arms around Luke and snuggled in to his side while a friend snapped a picture of them.

It had been that way all night.

At dinner, the trendy new age restaurant Luke had taken her to offered a bevy of people crammed into the dining rooms, loud voices and music you had to yell to be heard over, and gave Roxy her first taste of what Luke’s life was actually like. The man couldn’t go anywhere without someone noticing him. They were interrupted no less than a dozen times by someone wanting an autograph or picture, but Luke took it all in stride. Hell, the man thrived on it, if the look on his face was any indication.

Of course, sitting there while his attention was diverted elsewhere hadn’t been fun, especially when the bravest of admirers groped him right where he sat and left her feeling like a jealous girlfriend.

It was then she realized her dream date with Luke Harris had turned into a nightmare.

Glancing over her shoulder, she watched him smile yet again at another girl as he posed for pictures, and she shook her head at the scene. They’d stepped out of the restaurant fifteen minutes ago and she was pushed to the side the moment someone recognized him. She’d watched until his face was covered in a rainbow of colored lipstick before turning away.

She was invisible, and had been for hours now. They hadn’t said more than twenty words to each other all night. She’d stressed all day in preparations of their date, bought a new dress, and listened to Holly beg her not to sleep with him. Fat chance of that, she thought. He didn’t even know she was there.

The busy New York streets buzzed with life. The sidewalks full of people going about their business and Roxy watched them for long minutes. The longer she stood there alone, while her date showered his attention on other women, the madder she became.

Deciding to end her torment, she walked to the curb and tried to hale a cab. Apparently there was an art to it as every cab she saw zoomed past her like she wasn’t even there.

“You have to be more aggressive than that.”

Roxy looked to her left, at the man who in record time had a cab in front of her and the door held open.

“Care to share with me?” he asked.

He was cute, Roxy noticed. Tall, blond and young. And probably full of come, she thought with a grin. He apparently wasn’t blind to her presence. She looked over her shoulder, glancing at Luke before turning back to the man waiting by the cab. It would certainly be a proper revenge. She wasn’t going to be ignored, especially by Luke Harris.

Smiling, she walked to the open door. “Thanks,” she said. “I just need a ride back to my hotel.

“Anything you want,” he said, winking at her.

Roxy stepped off the curb and had just leaned down to get inside the cab when someone grabbed her arm. She turned her head, surprised to see Luke. He didn’t look happy.

“Can I help you,” she said, trying to keep the venom out of her voice.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“To the hotel.” She glanced back at the restaurant. “You better hurry,” she said, nodding her head toward the waiting group of ladies. “Your harem looks like it’s getting restless.”

When he looked back, Roxy rolled her eyes and pulled her arm from his grip. She looked over at the blond. “How far are you going?”

“Park Avenue,” he said.

“How long until we get there?”

“About ten minutes,” he said.

“Ten minutes? Perfect! Are you up for a little adventure?” she said, throwing a hateful glare at Luke before climbing into the cab.

“Most definitely,” the blond said.

Roxy leaned back in the seat, trying to keep the forced smile on her face. She ground her teeth together and stared straight ahead. When she saw someone lean in through the open door, she turned her head and gasped when Luke reached out, grabbed her around the waist, and pulled her non-too gently from the cab.

“What the hell are you doing?” she asked when her feet hit the sidewalk.

Luke grinned at her. “You’re not getting away from me that easily, doll face.”

“Let go of me,” she said, pulling away from him.

“I don’t think so.”

His hold on her waist tightened and Roxy could only stumble after him as he pulled her along the crowded sidewalk. She cursed under her breath and tried to get her temper under control.

She knew being pissed at him was childish. It wasn’t his fault he was gorgeous and every woman who saw him wanted a piece of him. Not to mention, Rock Star! He was a celebrity. Of course people wanted to be near him.

Relaxing her posture, she inhaled deeply, trying to let the anger go. She almost managed it. A brunette, who really needed a bigger shirt, appeared in front of them and just like before, Roxy was pushed aside as his adoring fans threw themselves at him.

“Oh, that’s it! I’ve had enough of this shit. I’m out of here,” she said, turning on her heel and storming off in the other direction.

She’d only taken four steps when Luke grabbed her again. She slapped at his reaching arms. When he bent at the knees and hoisted her over his shoulder, she let out a startled squeal.

“What the hell are you doing?” she yelled.

“Getting out of here,” he said. “And you’re going with me.”

“Luke! I’m wearing a dress. You’re going to show my ass to half of New York!”

His hand landing on her bottom wasn’t exactly the remedy she was looking for.

Roxy could only squirm as the sidewalk rushed by under her face. Her hair swung down his back and she had half a mind to pinch his ass just so he’d let her go. Getting dropped on her head didn’t sound like such a bright idea, though. So, she hung there, listening to his fan club call his name while she did her best impersonation of a potato sack.

When he stepped off the curb, her eyes widened when her feet hit the pavement. Straightening, she shoved her skirt down her legs and lifted a hand, pushing her hair away from her face. “I didn’t know you were such a caveman, Luke. You cease to amaze me.”

“I’m used to taking what I want,” he grinned.

“I’ve noticed,” she said. “So am I and right now, I want to go back to the hotel.”

“As you wish,” he said, smiling down at her. He reached behind her and she turned, noticing the limo. It hadn’t been there moments ago.

She didn’t wait for an invitation to get in.

When she was seated, Luke crawled in behind her, shutting the door and blocking out the sights and sounds of the crowd. He slid closer to her, throwing his arm over her shoulder, and Roxy raised a brow at his smiling face before moving to the opposite end of the limo.

With the entire length of the limo between them, she inhaled deeply, closing her eyes and letting the entire ordeal wash over her in a rush. When she opened her eyes, Luke was staring at her. The bastard had nerve enough to sit there and smile at her like everything in the world was perfect. Her irritation grew the longer she looked at him.

“In case I forget to tell you,” she said. “I had a wonderful time tonight.”

He laughed. “Sarcasm doesn’t become you.”

Roxy rolled her eyes, crossing her legs and tucking her crossed arms under her breast. She stared out the window to avoid his gaze. “Neither does playing second fiddle to the orchestra you’ve had playing all night.”

“Are you jealous?”

An unladylike snort escaped her before she could stop it. “Not hardly. I could care less,” she lied.

“I think you are.”

She ignored him, focusing her attention on the passing scenery outside the window while the jealousy he obviously saw ate away at her. This was her night, damn it! Her once in a lifetime date with Luke Harris, her ultimate fantasy, and it was ruined. Ruined by a throng of women who caused her to become invisible in his eyes.

Taking a deep breath, she let it go slowly. She should have just taken her ten-minute quickie in the dirty back alley of that club and been done with it. It was obvious Luke was too popular with the ladies for him to settle on one for an entire evening, regardless of the fact he’d asked her out to begin with. She wanted to laugh at the thought. Some date.

When she saw him move out of the corner of her eye, she resisted the urge to turn her head and look at him. He was still staring at her, that much she could tell. His features were hidden behind the inky blackness inside the limo but she could see him well enough to know his gaze was on her. He was still sitting with his arm draped over the back of the seat, his legs outstretched and open. His head was tilted to one side and she had to wonder what he was thinking. Probably that you’re a jealous, psycho fangirl, she thought miserably.

“I’m sorry.”

“You should be,” she said abruptly, keeping her attention on the window.

“Want me to make it up to you?”

She laughed. “No thanks. If this is what a date with you entails, I’ll pass in the future.”

He moved then and Roxy turned to look at him. He slid off the seat and she watched in fascination as he crawled the length of the limo toward her. When he stopped in front of her, she locked eyes with him, raising one eyebrow in question.

“I really am sorry,” he said, reaching out and grabbing her knee, unhooking her crossed legs before spreading them wide and crawling in between them.

Roxy let out a small gasp at the action and leaned back, her palms flat on the seat beside her. “What are you doing?”

“I’m going to make up for our ruined date,” he said, leaning toward her.

When his lips captured hers, Roxy felt the tension in her body melt away seconds after his hands ran up the length of her legs and disappear under the edge of her skirt.

His kiss was intoxicating and it took every ounce of control she had not to grab him, toss him to the floor, and ride him like the stud he was. Her fingers curled into fists and she dug her knuckles into the leather seat to keep from reaching for him.

He broke the kiss with a nibble on her bottom lip, his teeth clamping down on it and tugging slightly. Pain, laced with a sudden rush of heat, swam through her veins before he sucked her lip into his mouth. Roxy didn’t know whether to moan or cry.

So this is how he liked to play?

His curious fingers tickled her legs, burning a trail to her hips. When he grabbed her panties, jerking them down, Roxy gasped in surprise.

Luke sat back, pulling the tiny scrap of lace down over her thighs and the look on his face was one she’d never forget. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning. His eyes sparkled and that tiny half smile lifted the corner of his mouth.

When her panties slipped to her knees, she remembered her promise to Holly and came to her senses, clamping her legs together. “Luke! We’re in the back of a limo.”

“So,” he said, pulling the material forcefully. “No one can see us and Bobby is paid to drive. He’ll do so until I tell him otherwise.”

Before Roxy could protest further, her panties were tossed to the floor, her skirt pushed up over her hips, and Luke had her bottom pulled to the edge of the seat.

Her first thought was, what would Holly say? Thoughts of her friend didn’t last long, though. Not when Luke suddenly spread her legs wide, bent at the waist, and dropped his head to the heat between her legs.

Six Sentence Sunday :: Wicked: Tempt Me Not – Contemporary Romance book

This week’s Six comes from my contemporary romance, Wicked: Tempt Me Not, book 1 in the Wicked Series!
He popped the first button open on the button-fly jeans and Holly swallowed loudly. With each popped button more skin was exposed. If possible, the smile on his face only brightened.

A thin patch of fine hair that ran from just under his navel and disappeared into the confines of his jeans came into her line of sight. Holly’s pulse quickened and she had to force herself to not look away.

He was definitely not wearing anything under the jeans.

“Dance with me?”

Caitlyn looked at William over the rim of her wine glass. “Right here?” she asked, amused.

William grinned before sitting his glass down and standing. “Why not?”

Caitlyn stared up at him, taking in his smiling face and let out a tiny laugh. “Okay, but only if the band will play something else. I can’t dance to this.”

William winked at her before running to the car and leaning into the open window. The sound of static reached her ears when he changed the radio station and the music switched from classical to hip-hop before it would move to something else.

This wasn’t exactly what she expected when William asked her to dinner, but Caitlyn hadn’t stop smiling since they’d arrived.

The drive through the country had been relaxing and gave them time to talk. She’d learned of William’s role at Davenport Industries and of his plans to start his own company.

He wasn’t anything like she’d imagined. The refined businessman persona he projected was just that. Outside appearances told of a man quite different from the one most had a chance to see. His penchant for 80’s music and sappy romance novels reaffirmed the old saying…you can’t judge a book by its cover.

The spot he’d picked for their picnic looked like something from a fairy tale. A pond sat nestled between flowering trees. Their branches swayed in the light breeze and showered them with pink and white buds.
Birds sang and the sun streaked through the canopied treetops, casting beams of light around them. The area was beautiful. Caitlyn was still amazed William thought of this instead of something flashier.

The food he’d brought looked like a 5-star restaurant had prepared it. Gourmet sandwiches, a variety of cheeses, fruits and bite-sized desserts graced the blanket they sat on.

Caitlyn sipped at the wine William had poured for her and glanced at the pond. A family of ducks splashed off the shore. Their joyful squawks mingled with the birds singing in the trees. The entire area was in a word…breathtaking.

Hearing the familiar tune of one of her favorite bands, she turned her head to look back at William.

“You can never go wrong with these guys,” William said, pulling his head from the car window and straightening.

Caitlyn grinned at the look on his face when he walked back to where she sat. He extended his arm to her and she sat her glass down before reaching up for his outstretched hand.

She stood, the butterflies in her stomach she’d won control over once again taking flight. She didn’t understand why William made her feel like a teenage girl with just a glance. She looked at him and felt almost juvenile.

The music coming from his car radio sounded like a soft hum in the background. Caitlyn took a step toward him, raising her free hand and placing it on his shoulder. He pulled her to him, tucking their joined hands in to his chest. The moment his other arm wrapped around her waist, a sense of familiarity overwhelmed her.

She had been here before, in his arms. Her dreams were now real.

Caitlyn inhaled, taking in his scent. Rich spices and soap overwhelmed her senses. Their bodies were close, almost touching, and the heat scorched her through her clothes. The music drifted over the area like a soft breeze and she smiled as they swayed to the music.

William’s breath rustled the hair by her ear, the warmth spreading through her body and wrapping around her like a glove. His fingers on her lower back ghosted across the thin fabric of her dress and he tightened his hold on her, pulling her flush against him.

She didn’t ever want to leave his arms.

“You’re trembling,” William whispered.

Caitlyn raised her head. The intense look in his eyes that she’d seen many times in her dreams caused her pulse to quicken. “I know,” she said.

William stared at her before a slow smile curved his lips. “You’re going to do wonder’s for my ego if a simple dance gets this sort of reaction from you.”

She laughed, ducking her head. “You make me nervous. The trembling is involuntary.”

“And why do I make you so nervous?”

“You just do,” she answered, not wanting to tell him the real reason. He’d think her crazy if she told him she dreamed of him.

“Well, I suppose kissing you is out of the question then?”

His voice was deep and sensual and caressed her flesh like soft velvet. Caitlyn looked back up at him. There was a subtle seductiveness in his gaze and the tremble in her limbs increased. His hand on her back lifted to her face, pushing stray tendrils of hair from her eyes before his fingers warmed the skin of her cheek.

Caitlyn waited for the kiss she knew was coming. She saw it in his eyes seconds before he lowered his head.
His lips brushed her mouth like a silken whisper, caressing it more than kissing. Soft gentle strokes, the warmth of his breath teasing her lips apart. The moist sweep of his tongue darting inside to explore the contours of her mouth caused her body to slack against him.

Images of them together filled her mind. A small glimpse…portraits from the past she’d seen in dreams but felt as real as this moment did.

Her stomach flipped; the butterflies dancing in erratic patterns stealing her breath before the contact was gone. She stood there, trying to fill her lungs of stolen air and opened her eyes.

William was staring at her. His breath hot against her moist lips, his fingers running through her hair and Caitlyn could only gaze up at him.

The kiss, although barely there, had left her breathless. It lasted seconds but a lifetime of memories flooded her mind. She knew this man. There was no doubt now. She knew his body, his kisses, how his voice sounded as he made love to her and the trembles present before the kiss were now causing her knees to shake.

“I think I made it worse,” William chuckled.

“I think so.” They shared a laugh, Caitlyn burying her head in his chest. His arm once again moved to her back, the gentle caress of his fingers soothing and welcomed.

Six Sentence Sunday :: The Lawman – Historical Western Romance book

Here’s six sentences from my newest release, The Lawman, a Historical Western Romance.

He was thinking about this McNally man seeing her naked, she just knew he was. She leaned forward, pushing her breasts up by crossing her arms under them. “Of course, seeing how you’re unmarried, I wouldn’t have any objections to you taking on the task of marrying me. I’d have no problem crawling naked into your bed, marshal.”

He looked up quickly then, shock registering on his face. Her composure broke and she grinned. “Just something to think about.”

Excerpt

It was almost dark when Travis stopped in front of the cabin door. He’d been avoiding it, and Meredith, all evening but knew he couldn’t hide out in his workshop all night. He needed to eat for one thing and Meredith would freeze to death if he didn’t get a decent fire going.

He sighed, laying his forehead against the cold wood of the door, and closed his eyes. No matter how long he’d been away or what he’d done, he could still see her, naked as the day she was born, and his body ached with the need to touch her. He didn’t know how many times he’d walked out of the workshop with full intentions of walking into the cabin, grabbing, and kissing her completely stupid. He’d made it as far as the front door only once, though.

His body had hummed with barely contained lust. The urge to cover her body with his and thrust into that soft flesh made his bones ache. It had been too long. He knew that now. He’d never wanted anyone the way he wanted Meredith but he wasn’t at all sure it was just his abstinence that was causing it. She’d gotten under his skin in less than a day. Her carefree attitude and quirky ways were endearing. She was like a breath of fresh air that he’d been denied. She made him feel…alive. Something he hadn’t felt in some time.

But she’s so young, he thought. And her father is Willis Gunter. He grimaced at the thought. Of all the girls to stumble onto his mountain. What were the odds? It had to be a cruel twist of fate. Or a complete set up. Had the old man found a way to repay him at last? Did he send his beautiful daughter up to tempt him, to dangle her sweet ass in front of him, and then snatch her away?

“That’s ridiculous,” he said to himself. “You’re thinking too much.”

Shaking away the thoughts and not being able to put off the enviable any longer, he opened the door and went inside. He was stunned at what he saw.

“It’s not too much, is it?”

He looked around the room, at the tree, and then, at her. She was standing by the fireplace, nibbling on her bottom lip with an uncertain look on her face.

He glanced back at the tree and smiled. “It looks perfect,” he said, said. And it was. She smiled at him then and it nearly staggered him.

She clapped her hands excitedly and immediately walked to the tree. “I only used your oldest magazines for the ornaments so don’t get your boxers in a twist,” she said. “Do we need more?”

He shook his head, amazed. “No,” he said, crossing the room and looking at the ornaments she’d made. Origami angels, birds and flowers graced the branches; the pages from the magazines she’d used were bright and colorful. She’d made dozens of them, scattering them around the room and over the fireplace mantel. He picked one from the tree, looking at the intricate flower, and smiled.

“Where did you learn to make these?”

“One of my nannies taught me how,” she said. “After my mother died, daddy needed someone to look after me. We went through several nannies before we found Margaret. She was the only nanny who didn’t just tell me to go to my room and entertain myself. I think she actually liked me.”

“Your other nannies didn’t?”

She shrugged. “They seemed to…at first. I think they just liked my father’s money, though. My nannies were paid well.”

He made a sound deep in his throat, acknowledging her, and placed the paper flower back on the tree.

She turned then, walking to the sofa and picked up a larger paper ornament. It was a star. “I can’t reach the top,” she said. “Will you put it up?”

He nodded his head, watching her walk back across the room toward him. The look on her face made his pulse quicken and he swallowed heavily when she stopped in front of him. Only a breath separated them. She was so close he could smell the shampoo she’d washed her hair with. The scent of him on her skin from his clothes. He looked down at her, noticing for the first time what she was wearing. A pair of his boxers and a t-shit pulled tight against her body, molding around her curves. It was obvious she was sans bra. Her nipples were button tight and poking into the fabric.

The sight of her in his clothes draped so snug against her soft flesh made his cock twitch.

Her chest rose with every breath she took and his gaze traveled the length of her before settling on her face. Her lips glistened, the firelight casting a flicker of shimmers across them. He wanted nothing more than to taste them. To see if they felt as lush as they looked. When her tongue darted out, licking the full bottom lip, he closed his eyes.

She was killing him.
